The Maretti Award was born in 2002 from an idea by Christian Maretti and Concetto Pozzati. An event “all Italian” and features “nomads” (each award a different museum and / or exhibition site) that also boasts a tribute to an artist (always Italian) of proven career. Since 2012, the award has been strongly requested by Jorge Fernández Torres in Cuba at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam under the care of Torres, Raffaele Gavarro, Tania Parson Peñaranda, Israel Castellanos León and Caridad Blanco de la Cruz. Let’s remember, starting from the first edition, that the Maretti Prize has exhibited at the Modern Art Gallery of Bologna, Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery of San Marino, Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato, PAN – Palazzo delle Arti of Naples, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam, Fábrica de Arte Cubano – FAC, Center de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales. Artists, curators, are the protagonists and the authors of the different steps that precede the nomination of the winner and his recognition: that is the realization of a “unique” and complete monograph that represents its history, ideas, and artistic work. The book is edited with four hands (artist together with the selector curator) and published by the publishing house.
